Families Exploring Down Syndrome is an organization of parents, professionals, and persons concerned about the welfare of individuals with Down syndrome.
The organization began as small group of parents who gathered in 1989 at the Macomb Intermediate School District building. Their purpose was to network with other parents of children with Down syndrome. Soon the group began to have regular meetings as well as speakers on topics such as healthcare and education. Pattie Anderson was elected to as the first president.
It is the mission of Families Exploring Down Syndrome of Michigan to enhance the quality of life for all individuals with Down syndrome.
